GENITORTURERS Putting Finishing Touches On New Album
May 14, 2007Florida-based "shock-rock" band GENITORTURERS, featuring MORBID ANGEL frontman David "Evil D" Vincent on bass, has finished recording its new CD. The group is currently mixing the effort at RMP studios in Orlando with producer Dave Rave Ogilvie.
Hailing from Vancouver, B.C., Dave Ogilvie has worked with a long list of talented acts (NINE INCH NAILS, DAVID BOWIE, SKINNY PUPPY, PUFF DADDY, MARILYN MANSON and SLOAN, to name just a few) and is a master at the art of programming and mixing. He has been described as the fourth member of SKINNY PUPPY, for his strong contributions to much of that bands genre defining industrial sound. In recent years Dave has worked closely assisting Trent Reznor and on numerous NIN releases including the band's most latest live DVD, which he mixed.
Dave Ogilvie has a long history with GENITORTURERS, stepping in to mix their 1993 debut IRS Records release "120 Days of Genitorture" and producing most of their "Machine Love" CD, which included a cover of the DIVINYLS' "I Touch Myself" which incidentally he inspired and was hell-bent on having GENITORTURERS frontwoman Gen remake in her unique style.
Gen describes the band's new highly anticipated album as "genre-defying." "We went back to our roots, to what inspired each of us to play music, and based on the eclectic nature of each of the members musical tastes these roots run deep and wide," she says. "Combine this with the bands evolved level of songwriting and newly mastered talents and instrumentation (Evil D taking on wailing on upright bass to add to his reperatoire). We feel that this is has given birth to an album that is captivating and truly diverse.
"Our approach is not unlike that of ALICE COOPER and Bob Ezrin on their 'Welcome to My Nightmare' album, where each track encompasses a chapter in an ongoing storyline, and in GENITORTURERS case, picking up where our earlier album 'Sin City' left off. The end result, we feel, will be a redefining pivotal album for GENITORTURERS, which will also give birth to intense new live show elements that the band is so widely known for.
"We felt it was important to engage producers in the mix process who we knew would be dedicated to maintaining the diverse dynamic moods for each song."
The majority of the album was recorded in the GENITORTURERS' own Compound Studios with additional drum tracking at Tampa's Redroom studios.
Rave will be mixing tracks in Orlando at RMP studios, home to N' SYNC/BACKSTREET BOYS producer Veit Renn. Additional mixing will take place in Hollywood, California at The Chop Shop by Scott Humphrey (ROB ZOMBIE, METALLICA, TOMMY LEE) and in Los Angeles at Linda Perry's Kung Fu Gardens studio by Seth Von Paulis (COURTNEY LOVE, GWEN STEFANI, DEPSWA).
